Persian Collections

Princeton University Library’s Persian Collections gives researchers access to over 130,000 books in Persian, nearly 1600 manuscripts, 3200 periodicals and newspapers, and nearly 400 films, as well as many other resources in the Persian language and/or produced in Iran. The following is a selection of materials from the Persian collections, a number of which are or will be digitized to enhance access to these resources.   • Pre-1979 Periodicals and Newspapers

    The Pre-1979 Periodicals and Newspapers Collection unlocks unparalleled insights into Iran's past, providing context for comprehending contemporary Iran. This collection includes 50 meticulously bound and numbered volumes of journals and newspapers, as well as individual periodicals bound in their own volumes, spanning a vast historical canvas from 1850 to 1980. The Collection offers a comprehensive view of Iran's evolving political, social, and cultural landscape preserved over more than a century. The periodicals within these volumes allow researchers to explore the nuances of Iran's societal transformations and facilitate a granular exploration of the country's societal metamorphosis throughout this historical period.
